About Shame
Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment and stirs up memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.

The real “Shame” is that people so easily accept the term “sex addiction” as a concept when it has no clinical validation.
This idea was developed by addiction therapists who had no understanding of human sexuality. We cannot transpose the model of addiction to every human behavior and make it fit.
Sex addiction is a myth. People have many problems with sexuality and it is one of the more complex aspects of life on earth, but we cannot become addicted to sex. If you have questions or problems with your sex life, please seek out help from a therapist who identifies as sex-positive and who will not “shame” you.
