Naughty Nudie Glamour at the Ninth Annual Burlesque Festival

Posted on September 18, 2011Tassels, satin gloves and glitter will be taking center stage from September 29 through October 2 with The Ninth Annual New York Burlesque Festival. The festival brings four nights of performances from the best of burlesque (see event schedule here) along with classes at The New York School of Burlesque with the industry greats, e.g. Learn “Stunning Stage Presence and Riveting Facial Expressions” with the Reigning Queen of Burlesque 2011, Miss Indigo Blue.
Burlesque acts were America’s most popular form of live entertainment in the first half of the 20th century but the art form has experienced a new renaissance and is at its highest level of popularity since the 1950s, thanks to a new generation of neo-burlesque stars like Dita Von Teese and Michelle L’Amour, who bring a 21st-century touch to the old bump and grind. Who can resist the lovely Dita Von Teese dance down to sparkling pasties and splash around in an onstage bath?

I think I should win because my mother’s 62nd birthday is just a few days after this event and this would be an amazing gift! She is a physician and has worked nonstop for decades and now that the workload has lightened up a bit, she should get out and have fun and explore her slightly racier side! She’s a product of NYC in the 1960s and I think she would absolutely love this.

Have always been an admirer of burlesque. I once saw a show in Coney Island a few years ago and thought it was just fantastic. I rather watch a Burlesque show than going to a strip club any day of the week. The fact is, you can always see someone get naked. It really doesn’t take much to do that. But there is a special skill that a burlesque dancer has. The ability to tease and want you wanting more. Yea, you might be able to see most of her body, but you’re left wishing she would’ve stayed on stage a few seconds longer so you could see more. This event seems like it would be fantastic to go to. I would definitely like to go and see this show!
I think I should go because my friends and I love burlesque and we have burlesque night every few months where we dress up and have a blast. We always talk about how we wished we could have a Burlesque night in the city and i think being able to go see the show would be an amazing way to make that wish come true =)
